Summary
King of the World David Byrne has done it once again. With vivid colors and abstract ideas this lead singer really drives home everything we love about New Wave. He is clearly in front of a green screen just doing his thing and it couldn't be more brilliant. The song is Once in a Lifetime by Talking Heads and it's everything you could possibly want from a young New Wave group. This music video is the pinnacle of artistry and deserves more hype than it gets.
Analyze Me
We start in a wave of swirling blue and green when the magnificent David Byrne starts popping up out of nowhere and boy oh boy is it amusing. Byrne's way of moving is equally entertaining and ridiculous which just really makes you want to get up and dance along with him. The imagery is bright but still has that time period feel of gritty effects that make e-comm kids want to cry. The song itself is incredible to the point that knowing the lyrics doesn't really matter. The beat coupled with Byrne's attitude just makes you feel good.
Story? Maybe.
There absolutely is no story which stays true to the New Wave genre and aesthetics Talking Heads operated under during their time as a band.
Some Tings
Elements that I would love to apply to my work from this video are the absolute nonsense that's happening at all times and the overall good vibes Talking Heads brings to the party. I have already tried to bring some of that looseness that Byrne has to our music video project just in a more structured way that makes sense to the project.
Could it Improve? Sure, but Why?
This video isn't the newest one on the planet so of course there are things the creators could go and fix or sharpen now but in doing so it would take away from the overall vibes of the song and video. Talking Heads was a New Wave band and the music video truly captures the way their music makes people feel so to change that would be an injustice.
Conc
Talking Heads was an incredible band with incredible visions and have the upmost respect for the abstract entertainment they bring with their videos. Thank you David Byrne.
