4th Quarter Reflection
4th Quarter Project
The project was to create a product and be able to present it as well as ads, a commercial, and a website for your project. My team came up with the product Introverse which is a pill for people who are either introverted or just awkward and uncomfortable in social situations. The whole group project took pretty much the whole quarter except for the couple of days when we were learning different techniques and how to make ads with a target audience in mind. There were many things that I learned this quarter including how to make ads ad commercials for a specific audience and how there are colors you should stay away from when trying to sell to said audience depending on many different factors. Overall it was really interesting to learn more about how people in different groups interacted with how things are designed and stuff.
Sometimes it was hard to work with team on this even though it was less work for everyone all together. Of course there were times when communication was pretty hard and days when when a member would be gone when we needed them to do something that day so we could stay on track. Then there was designing the logo and packaging which had it's own set of problems that irritated me to no end. Color was way more challenging than it should've been and then the weight of different elements of the packaging constantly felt off and I couldn't figure out why. Then Mr. Olson and Mr. Netterville gave feedback on how the logo should have more weight than the picture on the packaging and that there wasn't enough contrast in the colors. The commercial on the other hand was very fun to make in the way that I was less stressed while doing it because I knew how I wanted it and how to do so.
In Class
During class I completed the commercial, logo, packaging, and the ad banner. When I was done with each project I'd get feedback from Julia and sometimes I would help her with what she needed to get done. After I'd talk to Julia I'd show my team and make sure everything looked good to them as well. Outside of class I would sketch many versions of our logo until I felt like my eyes were going to bleed and I would occasionally come up with random video ideas and start storyboarding for them to get more practice with planning videos.
Strengths and Improvements
My strengths, while seemingly limited, are indeed a bit limited. I'm pretty good when it comes to video and making things look how I want them to in that field. Balancing shots and making sure the angles aren't weird is something I've learned through photography so being able to do that was always real nice. Graphic design is really fun and I'm pretty decent at it but colors aren't something I regularly use when creating any pieces of art so having to use them in a way that makes sense was challenging at first. I'm not to great at animation but I hope to improve on that next year. 3D animation in sketch up was a continuous struggle and I got better at that when going through animation as a class so that was chill.
This Quarter
I loved video the most this quarter for sure. Which is probably because I enjoy video the most out of all the different strands but still, I enjoyed it the most and it was the least stressful part of this quarter. I would 100% redo the packaging if I was forced to redo this project. I was kind of rushed when doing the package and I'm not too incredibly happy with the way it turned out in the end. Next year I want to improve on my video skills as much as I can. Another goal for next year is getting a short film that I've been planning after school completed because that's something I'm very excited for. The only thing I have left to say for myself is that e9 was great and all but I hope next year is even better.
