Printing Process
Relief
Wood
- Wood block is prepped by an India wash so you can see where the drawing is going
- Make a paper transfer and choose what parts to cut away
- Ink gets rolled over the surface of the block
- Passed through the press to transfer to the paper

Linoleum
- Cut away parts of the linoleum you don't want ink on
- Evenly apply ink to the linoleum block
- Transfer the image to the paper
Intaglio
Dry Point
Etching
- Prepare plate by polishing and cleaning
- Apply a ground to the plate ie. mix of materials
- Smoke the plate to heat the ground
- Drawing the plate is scratching the surface to release the ground
- Etching the plate then rinsing
- Put back in the bath and clean
- Wipe plate with ink and wipe off excess
- Set on press with damp paper
Lithography
Stone
- Draw with a grease
- Chemically treat stone to establish where water goes
- Color gets drawn into the stone
- Etch the stone to help them relieve water later on
- Use gum arabic on it to cool down the stone
- Cheesecloth too buff it down
- Apply ink to bring up the image
- Force ink into the stone
- About four to six newsprints to get the ink full
